Descripción
This is a series of abstract paintings inspired by Francis Kurkdjian’s Dior Riviera fragrance. The visual artist and expressionist calligrapher, Koi Samsa, offers a sensory synesthesia through a conceptual narrative filled with analogies, metaphors, and metonymies. Chromatic harmonies emulate the exquisite combinations of aromatic notes by the perfumer.
Color halos occupy the pictorial space, mimicking the presence of a fragrance over time. Sharp contrasts highlight bold, piercing, almost impertinent notes that, in a melody of scents, stand out with their dissonant, dissenting touch, aiming for extreme beauty. Or, as Allan Poe would say, ‘There is no exquisite beauty without some strangeness in proportion.’
The artworks do not forget the Mediterranean environment where the encounter takes place and which inspires part of the perfume’s imagery being presented. The pieces aim to embrace all these elements and combine them with hints of the essence of fig and rose, revealed in the perfume’s presentation.
All of this is captured in 16 personalized paintings with a free interpretation of the ambassadors’ initials through calligraphy, inspired by the abstract expressionism that renowned artists of the 20th and 21st centuries such as Franz Kline, de Kooning, and Helen Frankenthaler made popular.
This gift, therefore, is a celebration of the sensitivity, beauty, narrative, and inspiration that only the most evocative arts can achieve, arts like abstract painting and haute perfumery.
